Sharing here an excerpt from Hidden Passion the story of Kamboj Princess Rukmani.
Rukmani is impetuous and unconventional as is shown by this snippet.
Hope you enjoy!

He chuckled, startling her out of her dejection, the sound stealing pleasurably to her toes. ‘That passive image is difficult to reconcile with you. No, priya. You’re certainly not so patient as to sit quietly at home. Where did you get that idea? I do wonder. You who’s always after the nearest person she can find to take her spear-hunting or arching arrows or jumping her horse over the obstacles.’

She smiled back, an involuntary shiver stealing down her spine as she saw humour light up those unfathomable eyes which usually gave nothing away.

‘And would you like someone like that with you? Such a wife would be a trial to a Maharaja, wouldn’t she?’

‘I don’t know. He might enjoy taming her wild streak,’ his eyes glinted at her, not backing down.

‘And if she refused to be tamed? What would you do then, maharaj?’

‘Me? I have my ways. I think I’d be able to persuade her.’ His gaze dropped to her mouth.

Awareness rose again, gripping her by the throat. She swallowed as desire to have him physically close swept through her.

She said huskily, ‘Devesh, we are not held by social boundaries now. Why should we have this distance between us?’

Immediately the humour was wiped out of his face, his expression becoming rigid with anger. ‘You’re being foolish. I was jesting. You know I won’t marry you.’

‘I don’t care about marriage.’

#snippet from Hidden Passion: Kamboj Princess Rukmani

To liven up a chilly Thursday, I’m sharing here a snippet from recently released ‘Hidden Passion: Kamboj Princess Rukmani’.
In this excerpt,  Devesh and Rukmani are taking a breather while on their way to the temple located on the top of a steep hill.
…………………….

Devesh saw the shadows creep into her eyes. He bent forward to tilt her chin up with one finger. ‘Don’t give up, princess! You’re made of sterner stuff. You have to be strong for your kingdom.’

‘I am not made for monarchial politics, maharaj.’ She wiped away her tears giving him a watery smile. ‘I don’t know what is happening now or why it is. I used to just have to say the words to get whatever I wanted. I was always in the center of my family circle, maybe even coddled by their love. There was always the liberty of choice. At least I thought so. I flouted convention and no one stopped me. I did everything I wanted…I thought it was because I was free, not because I was allowed, because I was being humoured. I never knew that if…when…I tried to go beyond the walls, my wishes would be trampled just because they didn’t suit the royal affairs.’

‘But, priya, royal affairs always demand sacrifice.’

The endearment took her by surprise. Pleasure rushed through her. For a moment it was as though he knew what she felt like. ‘It isn’t sacrifice for any worthy cause. That I could understand maybe. It’s because of their petty stubbornness. They should leave me out of their affairs.’ She said with a catch in her voice. ‘I only want to choose by myself the man I want to share my life with.’

#WIP #Blog Challenge — Sneak Peek into my Current Writing Project

Work in Progress Blog Challenge is to let the cat out of the bag on what you are currently working on.

I’m guilty of genre hopping with my next work. After Against All Rules, which is contemporary through and through, it is strange that my Muse has latched onto a historical, but so it is and sometimes all you can do is go with the flow. So this is how Hidden Passion came about.

My current and hopefully, soon to be released, project is a historical romance set in the Early Middle Ages in India. It is a sort of tribute to all the Maharaja and rajkumaris tales I used to gobble from Amar Chitra Kathain. If you’ve read those, you’ll know what I mean.

Who isn’t fascinated by the ancient period of palaces, chariots, kings, battles and the grandeur of royalty? In my story, Rukmani is a princess, the youngest of the Kamboj beauties and she has fallen for Deveshwaraya, King of Campavati, who’s totally wrong for her. Can royalty with command over everything, also face troubles? For that check out:

Hidden Passion

…when the walls of monarchical politics rise high between them, will her passion prevail?….

Here are the first sentences of the first three chapters of Hidden Passion :

First chapter :

The moment he stepped into the sabha, the informal gathering he had assembled under a marquee in the verdant palace lawns for his guests, Rukmani felt her breath trap in her throat.

Second chapter:

Rukmani felt exhilarated, her spirits rising with each clop clop of the horses’ hooves.

Third Chapter:

‘You wouldn’t want your kingdom to go to war just to have your choice of a husband, would you?’ He said softly.

Do let me know how you found the chapter starts. Hope you enjoyed the sneak peek. Stay tuned for more news on this by following this blog via email or you can follow me on Twitter @SummeritaRhayne
