Book Release Day for Physiology of Love #romance #novella

Hi folks,

I’m happy to share the book release of Physiology of Love with all of you. Hope you’ll check it out and enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed penning this novella. It’s the story of Dr. Aashita and Dr. Hardik, professors working in a medical institute who struggle to find their HEA. In the pandemic times, it didn’t look like it would see the published status, but thankfully it got done and is now up at Amazon kindle. Yay! Excuse me for the happy dance 🙂

🥳🥳💃💃😊😊

Sharing below the details of the book.

Blurb:

Dr. Hardik Kashyap is looking forward to a new job and to deepen his friendship with lovely Dr. Aashita when he joins as HOD in Physiology at Central Medical Institute. Unfortunately, his expectations smash to bits. His start at his new post is far from amiable, and as for Dr. Aashita, she sends a shower of angry sparks his way at every meeting.
He is willing to keep things at the friendship level, but it seems nothing works with her.
As a physiologist, he’s well versed in the regulations of the body functions and the working of the mind, but he just can’t seem to get a handle on the physiology of love.

Excerpt:

‘Please, Aashita, let’s discuss this calmly –’
She cast him a smoldering glance and he corrected hastily, ‘Dr. Aashita – ma’am. Why don’t you sit down?’
‘I can listen just as well standing.’ She stood upright and folded her arms. ‘So why exactly did you change the schedule?’
Hardik looked at her, still not believing she’d gone into this attacking mode. He spread his hands in a pacifying gesture. ‘I thought we could work together, you know, seeing how well we got along when you came for the exam at my college. We enjoyed the same food choices together and went sight-seeing and trekking…’ He waited for a reaction and tagged on, ‘I still have the pinecones you painted one evening. Wasn’t that fun?’ When she stiffened and didn’t make any reply, he tried again, spreading his hands in a placating way, ‘As the Head, it’s my job to assign the classes –’
‘So you came prepared to walk all over everyone.’ She unfolded an arm to make a walking gesture with two fingers on his desk top that at any other moment would have been comical. But confronted with her snapping gaze, laughter was the last thing on his mind. ‘Very well, if that’s your way, I should learn to put up with it.’
‘No! Aashita, listen –’ Hardik tried to find the words, but she was gone. He half rose then sat down again. A frown creased his forehead. It hadn’t been his fault that she didn’t get the schedule and the words were completely uncalled for. How could he understand what had made her do this? A slow anger at her unjustified rage began to simmer within him.

‘You’ll divorce me?’ The sense of anticlimax she felt annoyed her. Why wouldn’t he, for God’s sake? She’d been a far from ideal partner. No man wanted a three year estranged wife surely? Or why would he allow her to remain away for so long? For no logical reason, the knowledge had a sharp edge, stabbing her deeply.

Arfaaz’s gaze was fixed on the flush deepening on her cheeks. The color of anger…or joy at getting her freedom? It had been a mistake to pick her up in his arms, to give in to the urge to subdue that stubborn defiance. Three years since he’d touched her, yet her bones felt as delicate under his hands as the night he’d gripped her shoulders in anger. Evoking the same remorse one might feel for handling a bird badly. She had worn a metal colored dress that night. He could still feel the slithery fabric beneath his fingers. Another of her risqué dresses, with deceptively demure full sleeves while the shocker was the back. Which was missing. He had never objected to what she wore, though primitive instincts protested. She had a media image to maintain. He hadn’t wanted to act the possessive husband. A mistake, he thought again. Even the brief brush of her body against his had lit a spark that reminded him of how possessive he’d wanted to be. She had taken enough advantage of him. The grim thought rose from a host of emotions. He’d suffered, he’d been fooled, he’d been dumped. Was he going to take it all and let her go as easy as pie?

‘If you want a divorce, you’ll have to do a small favor for me first,’ he said.

‘Favor?’

‘Something which is important to me. Then you’ll be free to go.’

‘I will?’

He shrugged, letting her make what she could out of it.

About the Author:

Ruchi Vasudeva is a doctor by profession, a teacher by vocation and an author by destiny. The writing bug long resided in her till the Passions contest held by Harlequin for Indian authors gave her a golden opportunity to have her dream realized. She debuted in August ’13 with her book ‘Bollywood Fiancé For A Day’. She writes romantic fiction with conflicted characters. She loves to write about spirited heroines getting hurtled out of their daily life as soon as they cross paths with their rather challenging heroes.

Juggling job, writing and family life isn’t something she would recommend to anyone who wants peace and calm but at the end of the day, she finds it very fulfilling. When not bent over the laptop, she might be found with her nose in books or munching nachos at the movies with her husband and two kids or glued to the telecast of Team India in action. Sometimes she drags herself for long walks and surprisingly discovers they are rather good for brewing story ideas. ‘Romance,’ she holds, ‘can feel over-hyped in this day and age but is all too tangible and needed in life on daily basis.’

Extract from the book:

What was it about that cool hauteur that made her want to play with fire?

‘Of course, you’re no danger to me in a…’ deliberately she let her gaze run over him. ‘…sexual way, are you?’ He didn’t miss it nor did he miss the insolence she projected. She could see his mouth tighten in controlled annoyance. For a wild minute she wished he’d let loose and the unreasoning thought made her heartbeat pick up.

‘Are you trying to challenge me?’ Her heart jumped up at the deep voice laced with mockery. Coward, she derided. Surely she wasn’t frightened of him?

‘No challenge for you surely? You can hardly stand the sight of me.’ She reminded him.

‘Am I supposed to jump on you in fervent denial of that statement, swearing that I can’t keep my hands off you?’ A dark eyebrow rose. ‘Sorry, but your little game won’t wash, Sehgal.’ Irritatingly he addressed her by her surname again.

‘Oh how astute you are, Khehra!’ She widened her eyes. ‘You catch on so fast, guess I’ll have to watch myself more around you.’ She formed a pout, aware of his gaze moving to it, feeling an unreasonable thrill as it did. She must be mad. Or starved of fun. But somehow she couldn’t not try to get a reaction out of that stone monument.

His eyes narrowed, ‘Whatever you’re trying, I’m not looking for trouble, and I’d advise you not to go poke for it either.’

‘So disappointing!’ She shook her head sorrowfully, ‘Here I was getting thrilled to bits we’re going to have this weekend. Just us. Lonesome, twosome.’
