#Coverreveal #ATwistofFate #historical #romance #fiction

Hi folks,

Today I’m excited to share the cover reveal of my new upcoming historical romance A Twist of Fate. I simply love the beautiful cover and can’t help feeling it suits the book exactly.

The cover reveal is kindly hosted by the lovely book bloggers, Cathy and Zoe. I can’t thank them enough.

Here’s the cover. Do let me know what you think.

Blurb:
“I want to find him. And when I find him, I will destroy him.”
Charulata wants revenge. She seeks to spill the blood of the man who ruined her. He married her and left her after one night. The diktats of her society declare only one place suitable for the woman rejected and deserted by her husband – the abode of the concubines. Charulata faces ruin and now lives and breathes for one purpose…the only purpose keeping her alive. How to track Deva – and kill him.
Deva knows he had earned the wrath of this woman. Embittered and devastated, he’s a wounded lion hunting his enemies. Regrets and softer feelings are long gone from his life. He encounters Charulata with all the arrogance of his forebears. Yet the fire of hate is mixed with the fire of attraction between them. Rage and passion have become inseparable…
A Twist of Fate follows the entwining fortunes of Charu and Deva in the post Vedic ancient India. Greed, treachery, and deception feature highly in this story of royal suspense. Can love have a hope of surviving amid such intrigues?
To be a courtesan in ancient India was a fate far worse than slavery. This is the second book written on the theme by the author. Also read Against The Tide, the story of the royal concubine, the first book with the same theme.

Read an excerpt:

Her curved brows arched a little more – the mobile movement betokening the agility of a dancer’s expression. ‘Mayhap the tall form of my cousin pleases you better than a moderately built one like mine.’ At this, her eyes brimmed with humor before her lashes became cast down to hide it.

He resisted the urge to go over to her and tip up that firm looking chin. ‘I can’t tell what pleases me until I’ve held the form in my arms.’

He’d succeeded in having her gaze back to him, tangling with his and now her mouth curved in enjoyment of the sparing.

She said in a low well-modulated voice. ‘You certainly have your ideas clear in your head, swami.’

He made a gesture of half of impatience and half dismissal. ‘Don’t call me your master. It’s a slave more likely.’ His mouth twisted at the admission. The clink of ornaments sounded and Charulata came closer to him. Her hands were held in front of her, fingers tightly interlocked. He reached out and pried them loose, clasping each. They trembled in each of his like trapped birds. Their gazes locked. His pulse increased its pace. He thought his insides trembled also and couldn’t reason why.

‘Do you really wish me to be so brazen as to step in your embrace?’

He gazed down into her eyes, conscious again of that mixture of humor and the shyness of a bride. He surely didn’t wish her to come any closer. His blood pressure might not sustain it.

In direct contradiction, he said, ‘Do you want to?’

Her eyes widened a little, but he had to acknowledge she didn’t lack for comprehension. Two slim arms like the snakes of temptation wreathed round his neck and her warm curves pressed against his – what now seemed to have been destitute – body.

He felt definitely a tremor run through him. Instinctively, his hands reached out resting at the niche of her curving waist… She fit against him perfectly. His arms must have been made to hold her, her body to mold against his. His mind jumped to hope, to curiosity, the insistence how perfect would be the ultimate union with her –

Conscious of two impulses drawing him equally strongly in opposite directions, he tried to clear his mind. The urge to flee, to put distance between them, to remember why he was here – a lowly deception that clawed at him – was tossed against the second, as powerful wish – to take her to the folds of the silken sheets of the rose-petal strewn marriage bed.

#FightsceneFriday #HisChristmasSurprise #romance

Hello!

Sharing an excerpt from holiday romance His Christmas Surprise. This excerpt also shows an assertive side of the female protagonist. Today is International Women’s day so the right time to share a woman-centric snippet. In this, the heroine Tonya takes a stand against the relationship-phobic hero.

Enjoy!

…..

She didn’t want to hear the bleakness surrounding the words. Instead, anger rose at his determination to walk away from her so readily. They’d just shared a kiss that had been so full of passion, she’d been swept away with the force of it. He’d acted like he couldn’t resist her, for God’s sake.

‘How can you be like this after what you were like moments before? You didn’t ask me what I wanted, Dan. You can choose to kiss me one instant and then push me away the next?’
That seemed to get him. He sighed, running a hand on his face as though to ease the grim lines there.

‘I know what this looks like, Tonya…’

‘Do you really?’

She felt all trembly inside. Fear and something else evoking an urgency she couldn’t hold back.

‘I’m not saying I want to rush into a relationship with you, but you haven’t given me an option, have you? You’ve decided what you wanted and haven’t bothered to get to know about my feelings.’

‘No. I haven’t.’ His face wore the grim look again. ‘I don’t want to discuss this, Tonya.’

‘Oh? Let’s find something you do want to discuss.’ Her voice shook a little. ‘Not a lot of choice there, I’m afraid.’

‘Tonya…’ His blue eyes gazed at her and she saw regret there. It made her feel empty inside. Her fists curled.

‘Stop treating me like a stranger, Dan.’

#FightsceneFriday #MoreThanJustDesire #romance

Hi folks!

It’s time to share Fight Scene Friday.

This time it’s from More Than Just Desire, romance novel at Amazon kindle. The story between Arfaaz and Piya is all about fighting falling in attraction and then in love with each other. This book had many scenes of conflict. Here’s one for your reading delection. In this, Arfaaz meets Piya after three years separation resulting from differences during their marriage.

Excerpt:

‘Why are you back?’ The question was stabbed at her, a fleeting eye lock in the mirror confirming that he was in no mood to humor her.
‘Why shouldn’t I be? Does it inconvenience you?’ she snapped back.
‘Why should it?’ A dark eyebrow rose.
‘Maybe you’re too busy painting the town red to want a wife in the picture?’ Better to be offensive, she told herself. And who knew it might be near the truth.
‘Don’t judge me by your own scale. Piya. That was your forte, not mine.’
‘What’s yours?’ Unreasonably angry, she wanted to flail at him. That caused her eyebrows to knit in surprise when what she should be was contrite. The anger wouldn’t be stemmed, giving rise to sarcasm, ‘To wait patiently and celibately for your wife to come back into your arms?’
Tension rose in the air. The negativity between them was like a wall. A silence fell. He broke it, his words heavy with recrimination. ‘Patiently…after the way you have tried me, you really expect that? I was patient with you once, don’t forget that, Piya. Far more patient than you deserved. But you chose to see it as weakness…’
She had. A flicker of pain crossed her expression as the stab hit home. Everything he said was true. Seeing him, every one of the demons that chased her was yanked awake, seething and burning for revenge on her. She closed her eyes. It had been a mistake to come back. A mistake to even think of facing him.
He signified everything that was wrong and evil in her. The symbol of her worse side. Teeth sank on her lip with enough force to hurt. She wanted to be out of his sight. If anyone had handed her an airplane ticket back to Boston at that moment, she would have taken it and flown away. Never, ever to look back.
‘As for being back in my arms, it wasn’t your place before, so why would things change that much now?’ he shot out grimly.

#Sharing #excerpt from #romance #AgainstAllRules

Hi everyone,

Sharing an excerpt from the first book I published as indie author. Against All Rules is very close to my heart since it marks my debut into the world of self publishing. It taught me a lot. Since then many books have been launched and some did better than it, but the accolades won by this remain cherished.

It’s a sizzling snippet, so beware! *wink *

Excerpt:

At last he saw the acknowledgement in her eyes. They softened and glowed as though she was reliving the surge of sensations they both had been enveloped in. How could this girl, whom he would have said he was unlikely to find desirable, arouse such a potent awareness in him so that he found himself locked in the hazel pools of her eyes, pulled in till he had no volition left of his own and was only dimly aware when he found he was cupping her jaw, bending to kiss her and then it didn’t matter because a bare couple of inches didn’t take much to cover. Not when he was being sucked in by a force larger than his resistance. Not when the prize was the contact of her soft lips. He needed to touch those, have them under his, taste the ripe flavor of her heat, soft and sweet and infinitely giving. Then he was tasting it all. Arousing. Passionately generous. He wanted it to go on forever. He wanted to end the light exploration and deepen it into complete abandon.

…..

Blurb:

Desire which breaks all rules…
Samara, the cool and efficient office assistant at work, is hopelessly attracted to her boss. Strong as the attraction is, she’s equally determined to keep it a secret from the suave tycoon, Tahir Virani.
Tahir, the distant and at times, sarcastic boss, has no time for Samara. Embittered and cynical after his failed marriage, he has no intention of getting involved and certainly not in anything long term.
A kiss changes everything. The office logistics go haywire as awareness zooms to level ‘O’. Soon, one thing is clear, they can no longer ignore each other.
But Tahir has clearly no intention of breaking his office protocol and Samara would never settle for a fling.
When the fire is set, who can avoid the blaze?

Reviews:

“A superbly written book with well delineated characters and scorching chemistry!”
“The palpable attraction between the two and the fight of principles takes us on an intense, hot and passionate journey. If one is looking for a hotter than hot Indian romance on a dreamy night or day `Against All Rules’ is the book.”
“A read guaranteed to keep you warm at night:)’ ”

Spotlight on Beyond Scars’ by Alka Dimri Saklani #fiction #novel

Hello everyone,

I’m sharing today Book Spotlight – ‘Beyond Scars’ by Alka Dimri Saklani

Blurb:
Hi, I am Avinash, but this is not my story. This is the story of Avni, my sister. I know the smell of cement and bricks still pulls her to the incident seven years ago where she made a daring yet ruthless decision. I know she is drifting away. I know she has begun to find comfort in Vivaan. But I don’t know if I like it.

Hi, I am Avni, but this is not my story. This is the story of Vivaan, the stunning, vivacious painter. There is something sad about the paintings he has locked away from the world in his storeroom. But he never talks about it. But then there are a lot of things he doesn’t talks about, like how deeply he loves me.

And what about Dev and Kangana? Isn’t this their story too? It wouldn’t have been if only we did one single thing differently on that ill-fated night, the night that changed the course of our destiny. And hey, I am Vivaan.

And what about me? Why does nobody talk about me? Or talk to me? Because I am a little girl or because…Well, this is my story too. You will ask who I am? The answer lies somewhere in the pages of BEYOND SCARS.

Excerpt from the book:
I closed my eyes but before I could drift away a loud thud startled me. When I opened my eyes Avni was on the floor, curled into a ball, gasping to breathe, and trembling heavily.
Shit. She had a panic attack.
“Avni, Avni sit straight and take a deep breath.” I rushed to her, lifted her by her shoulders and helped her sit. Her earthy aroma captured my senses and it was becoming hard to keep the distance, fighting the urge to protect her, embrace her in my arms. I helped her sit against the wall and rushed to the nearby tap. I got some water in my palms and sprinkled some on her face. I rushed to the tap again and got some water for her to drink. She pushed aside my hand.
“Avni, you need to calm down. You are here for Tia.” Thankfully, I knew how to convince her.
She sipped the water and as her soft lips touched my palms, a thousand desires were unchained. It took the last ounce of my will power to control my urge to hug her tightly and kiss away her worries like the old days. She soon pulled back and rested her back on the wall, creating distance between us. Once again.
I stood up and walked back to get a grip on my emotions. I pushed my hands, that were still burning from her touch, in my pocket.

Guest post by author Aarti V. Raman

Hi everyone, A very Happy Valentine’s Day.

On this special day of romance, I have here the lovely Aarti V Raman to share about her favourite books to read and how she fell in love with them.

So without delay, over to Aarti.

*

How I Fell For Trope-y Romances.

The arrogant billionaire. The brooding boss. The virgin secretary. The betrayed wife. The secret baby. The ugly duckling turned into beautiful swan. The lover she can’t forget. The best friend who becomes so much more. The marriage of convenient revenge.

For those familiar with category romances (Mills and Boon and Harlequin, to be precise) these words will sound like home. After all, any romance lover worth their salt has consumed the case of the brooding arrogant billionaire who blackmails his innocent (read sexually inexperienced) secretary into becoming his wife because her brother steals his patented video game. (I JUST MADE THAT UP!) Of course, then they have mind blowing sex and intense revelations that lead to their happy ever after, because romance.

Romantic tropes are God’s blood for romance writers. It is our personal playground. Our heaven and hell. Because the trick to writing good, nay, great romance is to ‘subvert the trope’ without losing its essence. And, trust me when I say this, it is Mission Impossible on the worst days.

Now let’s go back in time, to when I was a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, extremely lazy student who snuck novels into her textbooks and read them. I have always talked about how Sidney Sheldon’s Nothing Lasts Forever was my introduction to adult books, to truly great writing and plotting at age 10.

But, my first brush with trope-y Mills and Boon romance was a little gem of a book called Don’t Fence Me In by the esteemed Kathleen Korbel. It was an early nineties love story but it subverted all the tropes, people.

Picture this. A famous Hollywood superstar has burned out and wants to hide out in his cattle ranch in mega-rural Wyoming/Montana/Missouri/Colorado till he figures out his next move. He wears a bushy beard and contacts to hide who truly is. The heroine is his competent ranch manager. A single mom with a gifted child. A snarky redhead. A spectacular horsewoman. And, like basically, kickass.

Sparks fly when the drunk ranch owner shows up unannounced and wants to see how the place works. Can the Hollywood superstar win the heart of the small town cowgirl or will it be curtains close for these two sweet peeps before opening night?

Don’t Fence Me In worked for me on so many freaking levels that I immediately went to our local secondhand book shop (this was pre-smartphones so I actually READ the books) and devoured all the Mills and Boon romances and well, it was the beginning of a long and beautiful friendship that lasts till today.

Don’t is a classic example of trope subversion – a cowboy romance coupled with fish out of water and the ever-classic small town and city mouse. But, here the heroine is the cowgirl, the hero falls on his ass when he tries to rope a steer! The heroine is adorably small town and still worldly wise for never having been outside of the continental United States. Their pasts are addressed neatly and the dialog is sparkly. And, Noah Campbell is SUCH A DECENT guy for being a Hollywood top dog, I can’t stress this enough. Oh and if all this isn’t too much, there’s a cattle ranch mystery to solve too!

All in all, Don’t Fence Me In and other great category romances will basically do this – put you in the world of a wonderful, universal love story and still shake up your world view just a little. All with a guaranteed happily ever after and oodles of smexy scenes.

It’s why I love reading them. And why it is my personal privilege and honor to write tropey romances.

Wishing everyone a very tropey, gooey, HAPPY Valentine’s Day!
